The Signing Ceremony of Merging and Uniting ESPs Operating in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, April 21, 2024: The Minister of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Abdillahi Bidhaan Warsame, met with the electricity service providers operating in Mogadishu.
Accompanying the Minister were the Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Hon. Ibrahim Mohamed Ali, the State Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Hon. Mohamed Abdullahi Farah, the Director General of the National Electricity Authority, Mr. Abdullahi Ahmed Dayib, and the Director-General of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, Mr. Abdullahi Hassan Aden.
The purpose of the meeting was to follow up the previously MOU signed by the electricity service providers in Mogadishu aimed at merging and uniting to become one ESP, and to expedite a formal agreement of uniting and merging, in order to jointly benefit from the developmental grants and enhance efficiency and service delivery in the electricity supply industry. The Minister emphasized the importance of the electricity service providers uniting and merging to advance the electricity supply in Mogadishu and to collectively capitalize on the available investment opportunities.
The electricity service providers welcomed the Ministry’s efforts and the significance of uniting to improve the electrical services provided to the public. Finally, Minister Abdillahi Bidhaan Warsame thanked all the ESPs that attended the meeting, expressing how committed the Ministry is to enhance the electricity service industry in Somalia. The Minister reiterated the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources vision to provide affordable, and sustainable electricity services that reaches all citizens in Mogadishu and throughout the entire country.
