The SESRP
The Federal Government of Somalia and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources is implementing the Somali Electricity Sector Recovery Project. The project Development objective is to increase access to lower-cost and cleaner electricity supply in the project areas and to Re-establish the electricity supply industry.
The Project will be implemented across the entire Somalia peninsula, covering Southern Somalia (Banaadir, Jubbaland, South west state, Hiiraan & Shabelle and Galmuudud), Somaliland, and Puntland.

The SESRP Objectives
Improve power supply reliability to meet growing demand
Restore and upgrade the electrical infrastructure, including power generation facilities, transmission lines, and distribution networks, to ensure reliable electricity supply.
Restore the sector’s financial viability
Strengthen the financial sustainability of electricity utilities by addressing issues such as revenue collection, tariff structuring, and cost management.
Strengthen the sector’s institutional framework
Promote the integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, into the electricity generation mix to reduce environmental impact and enhance energy security.
Reinforce a contract-based electricity market
Modernize the electrical grid infrastructure to enable smart grid technologies, improve reliability, and accommodate distributed energy resources.
