Project Coordinator

Background

The Federal Government of Somalia, the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, is implementing the Somali Electricity Sector Recovery Project aimed at. The Ministry established a Project Implementation Unit which comprises experienced specialists with various disciplines who is tasked to implementing the project.

Project Coordinator (SESRP & ASCENT)

The Project Coordinator leads the Project Implementation Unit under the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources and has the overall responsibility of coordinating, leading and implementing the Somali Electricity Sector Recovery Project (SESRP) aimed at— the Ministry is also preparing is preparing the Accelerating Sustainable and Clean Energy Access Transformation in SOMALIA (ASCENT) aimed at-, on the other hand, the Project Coordinator has the overall responsibility of coordinating all World Bank Funded Energy Projects in the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources. The Somali Electricity Sector Recovery Project (SESRP) is being led now by an Interim Project Coordinator, temporarily appointed by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources, and the Project Coordinator recruitment will soon be finalized.

The following is the key responsibilities and duties of the Project Coordinator

  1. Strategic Coordination and Leadership: The Coordinator oversees the coordination of various World Bank-financed energy projects under the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources. This role entails strategically managing communications and interactions between implementing agencies, stakeholders, and other involved parties to ensure seamless project progress.
  2. Technical Support and Reporting: A significant part of the role involves working closely with the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) staff. The coordinator is responsible for preparing detailed technical briefs, comprehensive reports, and other necessary documentation. These materials are crucial for maintaining transparent and effective communication with all stakeholders and for ensuring that all parties are aligned with the project’s objectives and progress.
  3. Project Supervision, Compliance, and Risk Management: The Project Coordinator plays a vital role in planning and coordinating project supervision missions, as well as steering and technical coordination processes. A key aspect of this responsibility includes monitoring project implementation to ensure adherence to the Project Implementation Manual financing agreements, and environmental and social risk management protocols. The coordinator must ensure that all aspects of the project comply with the agreed-upon procedures and standards for implementation.
  4. Monitoring and Advising on Follow-Up Actions: The role extends to monitoring the implementation of follow-up actions stemming from various project-related processes. The coordinator provides advice and updates to the implementing agencies regarding progress on these actions and any outstanding issues that need addressing.
